Name

Steve Mitchell

Position within the church

I am one of the elders in the church, with specific responsibilities over youth and childrens activities. We are blessed with many children and young people and we want to make sure that the Bible is communicated to them in a way they understand. We live in a world that is increasingly secular and teaches our young people that fulfilment is gained through materialism or personal pleasure. The Bible radically teaches that personal fulfilment can only be found through Jesus and serving others.

Are you married?

I married Sue in 1991.

Have you any children?

We have three school-age children.

What is your day job?

I work in Birmingham, running a waste management company that deals with all the domestic waste produced by the city's residents - and there is plenty of it!

Briefly, what were the circumstances that led you to the Lord?

I became a Christian when I was in my teens after realising that there was more to life than just the here and now. My parents took me to church so I knew about God, but I realised that going to church didn't make me a Christian. It was more about what I believed - that Jesus died for my sins - that had an impact on my life.

What are your favourite passtimes/hobbies?

I am a keen Nottingham Forest supporter (just about old enough to remember the glory days) and I like to play golf when I can.

Do you have a/any favourite TV show(s)?

I don't have a favourite TV programme, but enjoy The Simpsons and Top Gear.

What is your vision for Manor Park?

I am very keen to see Manor Park Church become influential in the community of St Johns by telling people the good news of Jesus - a message that is desperately needed in today's society.

What's your favourite kind of music?

I have to admit to being a closet Queen fan - too much exposure to 1980's music!

What is your favourite passage of scripture?

Isa 40 28-31. 'Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no-one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.'

What's your most favourite place on earth?

I have been to many places that take my breath away. Niagrara Falls, Mount Kilimanjaro, The Rift Valley but the countryside of the UK is every bit as beautiful and I often wonder at the amazing beauty of the world we are surrounded by and its Creator.
