Brian Collett
Deacon
Married to Mary for 37 years
Two grown up lads. The eldest is married, lives in Dorset and has 3 children. The youngest is a soccer coach in USA and is engaged to be married this year.
From school I trained for 5 years as an apprentice engineer but spent most of my working life as an account manager in the computer industry. I am now enjoying early retirement.
My parents were Christians but it was not until I was 15 that I recognised the need of God in my own life, when I understood that salvation is entirely a work of God`s grace and cannot be earned. God in His love forgave my sin and I was adopted into His family and received the free gift of eternal life. It was many years ago that Jesus came into my life but I can say I have known His Hand on me – guiding, providing and enabling in all areas of my life.
I played a lot of local competitive sport - table tennis in the Worcester & District League from the age of 10; football in the Worcester & District League for 30 years and cricket until I was 59. The only thing I`m good for now is playing scrabble with my wife - and I don`t win very often!!
In addition to the above I spent many years leading the church youth club and was church secretary for over 30 years.
We no longer have a television licence. We do however, watch suitable DVDs. My mother aged 90, is always pleased to see me if there are any decent programmes on!
My vision for Manor Park is that the truth of the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ will remain central and that all will learn of God`s love, compassion and forgiveness, and will feel a warm welcome, both young and old.
I enjoy a wide range of music but particularly enjoy anything thats got a nice melody. I love to sing the hymns and spiritual songs, old and new that we use in our worship.
One of my favourite verses is: “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23) i.e. the free gift we all need to accept.
I had the privilege of holidaying in Barbados a few years ago. It was a sports complex with a warm sea all the time – just wonderful. However, it doesn`t compare with Dorset where Grampy and Granny visit their grandchildren regularly.
