Evidence Not Seen follows a young woman’s story from missionary to the primitive tribes of New Guinea to four years of terrible deprivation and hardship as a Prisoner of War in the jungles of Indonesia.
The Japanese soldiers accuse and punish her for crimes she did not commit and strip her of her human rights, earthly belongings, health, many of her dear friends and even her beloved husband. But the Lord continually reminds Darlene of His great love for her as he lays on her heart verses that she has memorised, songs that she learned as a child and outright miracles which prove to be the source of her strength and even joy that she draws upon in some of the darkest plights imaginable and shares with those around her. Her courage, strength and faith in the face of such atrocities were a beacon of hope and a testimony to many around her that Jesus is Lord as she graciously and humbly took onthe role of leader in one of the women’s barracks.
As I was reading this book, I was so moved by her personal walk with God. She had nothing in her hands but in her heart she knew she was a child of the King who could provide for her every need and whose promises never failed. She had joy that ran so deep that even the soldiers with their methods of physical and mental torture could not take away from her. She kept on with the Lord and the Lord kept on with her. She expected the Lord to work in wonderful ways and He did. The story challenged me to pursue a deeper relationship with God, one of expectancy and trust whatever the situation.
